DORA L. MONSERRATE-PEÑAGARICANO,
was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 27, 1970. Dora
graduated from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, PA. (B.A., 1992)
and the Inter-American University, San Juan, P.R. (J.D., 1995).
She is proficient in Spanish, English, French, and Italian.
She was admitted to bar in Puerto Rico in 1996 and in 1997 to
the U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the
U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit.
From 1995 until 1999, she was an
Associate Attorney at the law firm of Martínez Odell & Calabria
practicing civil, commercial, construction and environmental
litigation. On 1999, she was promoted to Senior Associate
Attorney. She held this position until January 2001 when she
accepted to join the public service as General Legal Counsel of
the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO). She
was also Pridco’s Secretary of the Board, General Counsel for
the Department of Economic Development and Commerce and
Secretary of the Board of Directors of the Special Communities
Perpetual Trust. In September 2003, Dora returned to the
private practice and is currently working as a partner at
Monserrate & Monserrate. Her partner is her father, criminal
defense attorney Joaquín Monserrate Matienzo. Although Dora
practices mainly civil cases, she is also handling criminal
cases with her father.
Dora has served
in our Board since 1999. Since 2002, she has been in charge of
our chapter’s yearly Scholarship Golf Tournament. She has also
coordinated various luncheons and activities such as the FBA
Puerto Rico Chapter Scholarship awards. |
